Proposal:

All students should have an opportunity to learn about music and learn how to play music.

Discussion:

Music education should include appreciation for a variety of musical genres, learning to sing or use an instrument, and making music together with others.

The music used in classes should be a mix of fun and educational. It’s also an opportunity to introduce students to other cultures from around the world and to music styles from different times in history. To the extent such diverse selections are used, they should be used to enhance individual learning and appreciation for a variety of musical sounds and style, and to help students find what they like.

Students who are interested in achieving more should have an opportunity to learn how to read and write music, and additional time to practice and compete.
