    Intent

To adopt a calendar which is based on Earth’s orbit around the sun.

    Proposal

    Discussion

    Goals of this calendar include:

    * Fully account for Earth’s orbit around the sun and the actual length of Earth’s year
    * Easy to use for humans
    * Easy to program for computers
    * Can map dates from existing calendar to the new calendar (but they don’t need to be the same)

    Non-goals of this calendar:

    * Having all the same dates; for example if there is a birthday on January 31st but the new calendar does not have a January 31st, then anyone born on January 31st should be able to map the same day to the new calendar as being the same day of the year, meaning the Earth is in a similar location in it’s orbit, even if the name of the month or the day of the month are different; of course that person was still born on January 31st of the old calendar, that doesn’t change, but the date when the same day is celebrated might be named differently in the new calendar.
    * Aligning with the lunar months; the moon’s orbit around Earth doesn’t exactly align with the Earth’s orbit around the sun so we need to prioritize Earth’s orbit for the calendar; the lunar calendar can be mapped to the Earth calendar
